The Washougal man who died after falling into the Mount St. Helens crater Saturday was an experienced climber, officials said Monday.

Roscoe Shorey, 42 and known to friends and family as Rocky, had climbed Mount St. Helens 28 times prior to the accident, the Skamania County Sheriff’s Office said.
