Kann, the wood-fired Haitian restaurant from Portland chef Gregory Gourdet, was named one of America’s best restaurants by Food & Wine magazine on Tuesday, marking the latest accolade for the celebrated restaurant.

In its second annual Global Tastemakers feature, the Birmingham, Alabama-based magazine tapped Kann at No. 10 on its list of the top 20 restaurants in the United States, noting its efforts to “showcase the deliciously immense reach of the Haitian culinary tradition.”

Anajak Thai, the Los Angeles-area restaurant known for its Thai Taco Tuesdays, landed at No. 1. Only one other Northwest restaurant made the top 20 list — Kin in Boise, Idaho, the home of James Beard Award-winning former Portland chef Kris Kimori. No Seattle restaurant made the cut.

It’s just the latest honor for Kann, which was previously named The Oregonian’s 2022 Restaurant of the Year, was picked as the best new restaurant in America by Esquire magazine that same year, and won the James Beard Foundation’s best new restaurant award in 2023.

Kann remains one of Portland’s toughest tickets, though with a little pre-planning, it’s easier to get in now than it was at this time last year. Currently, most April reservations have been snagged, but May still has options available for parties of 2 and 4, especially if you’re comfortable eating at 4 or 9 p.m.

Visit Kann between 4 and 10 p.m. Wednesday-Sunday at 548 S.E Ash St., 503-702-0290, kannrestaurant.com.
