A man has been arrested after a woman was shot to death and another woman seriously wounded in a Corvallis residence Saturday night, the Corvallis Police Department said.

Vonetta Johnson, 34, was killed in her kitchen, and her sister, 24-year-old Ciara Page of Eugene was injured, according to police.

The suspect, Jerry Bruce Mitchell Sr., 53, was arrested in northern California shortly after midnight “following a 45-minute pursuit that at times exceeded 100 miles per hour,” authorities said.

Police arrived at the scene of the shooting at 1927 Northwest Highland Drive in Corvallis at about 7:20 p.m. Saturday. The Corvallis Fire Department took Page to Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center, where she is in stable condition, police said.

Page told officers that Mitchell, of Long Beach, Calif., was Johnson’s boyfriend, police said.

Mitchell faces likely charges in Benton County that include murder in the first degree, attempted murder in the first degree and unlawful use of a weapon. The investigation into the shooting continues.
