Winterhawks Player of the Week: Luca Cagnoni

Talk about the Winterhawks on our off-day thread.

With 3 goals and 1 assist in 2 games, the Winterhawks Player of the week for March 25 through March 31 is Luca Cagnoni.

Two of the goals were classified as game-winners, by how hockey defines it. Gabe Klassen and James Stefan, whom Cagnoni just edged out, each had game-winning goals by the other definition, the go-ahead goal where the lead was never relinquished.

Cagnoni, the Western Hockey League’s highest-scoring defensemen in 30 years, has started the playoffs strongly, although at the moment he’s tied for second in points by defensemen behind Kelowna’s Caden Price, who has 5 points.

Friday vs. Victoria (Game 1): 2 goals in a 4-3 win over the Royals.

Saturday vs. Victoria (Game 2): 1 goal, 1 assist in a 5-1 win over the Royals.

Assists on his goals: Nate Danielson 2, Marcus Nguyen 1, James Stefan 1, Gabe Klassen 1.

Goals he assisted on: Nate Danielson 1.

Discuss this and the Winterhawks in general.
