The suspect in an early-morning stabbing was arrested Wednesday after he threatened to shoot police and barricaded himself in an apartment in the 12100 block of East Burnside, the Portland Police Bureau said.

Police said the suspect stabbed a woman in the Hazelwood neighborhood at about 2:20 a.m. Wednesday. The victim was not stabbed on the East 122nd Ave. MAX Station, as initially reported. “The alleged victim is believed to have come to the MAX station seeking help,” TriMet said.

The suspect, Beka Dekebo, was booked in Multnomah County jail around 12:30 p.m. on charges that include second-degree attempted murder and unlawful use of a weapon.

The condition of the woman who was stabbed is not known at this time.

Police closed streets in the area and began to communicate with the man who had barricaded himself in the East Burnside apartment. The negotiations, stretching over many hours, were unsuccessful, and the Police Bureau’s Special Emergency Reaction Team eventually went into the third-story apartment and arrested him, the police bureau said.
