Probable starters: OSU RHP Jacob Kmatz (2-0, 0.64) vs. RHP Ryan Halamicek (2-1, 2.16)

This and that: Kmatz is making his fourth start in what has been a exceptional start to the season. After a so-so debut, he’s been dominant in his last two starts, allowing just one run on four hits, while striking out 18, in a pair of wins. The 18 strikeouts are the most he’s had in back-to-back starts during his three-year career, surpassing the 14 he had last year against Cal and Washington. ... Jacob Krieg has been a force in the series, hitting two homers and a double, while driving in five runs. ... The Beavers 13-1 start is their best since 2018, when they opened the season 20-1. ... Oregon State is 90-36 in nonconference play under coach Mitch Canham. ... Three OSU players had multi-hit efforts on Friday: Krieg (2 for 4 with a homer, double and three RBIs); Elijah Hainline (3 for 4 with a double); and Travis Bazzana (2 for 3 with two walks and two stolen bases). ... Freshman third baseman Trent Caraway has not played in the series because of an illness. He had started every game this season, hitting .370 with five doubles, seven RBIs and 14 runs scored. ... The Beavers have used a unique tactic to work starting outfielders Micah McDowell and Brady Kasper back into the lineup as they recover from minor leg ailments. Coach Mitch Canham has started McDowell at designated hitter the last two games and inserted a pinch runner for the senior once he reaches base. Then, later in the game, Canham has used Kasper as a pinch hitter in place of whoever replaced McDowell and repeated the process, using a pinch runner for Kasper once he reaches base. McDowell has gone 1 for 2 with an infield single, while Kasper has gone 0 for 2 with two walks.
