Man shot to death in downtown Portland Sunday night; 19th homicide in the city this year

A man died after being shot in downtown Portland on Sunday night.

Officers responding to a call shortly before midnight arrived in the 800 block of Southwest 10th Avenue, where they found a man “suffering from a gunshot wound,” the Portland Police Bureau said in a statement. The officers aided the victim at the scene until paramedics showed up and took him to a nearby hospital.

The man, whose name has not been released, later died at the hospital.

Homicide detectives closed off Southwest 10th Avenue near the Central Library for the initial phase of the investigation. Police did not say if anyone had been detained in the investigation.

The deadly shooting is the 19th homicide in Portland this year. The 18th occurred Friday when someone stabbed a man to death on the Steel Bridge’s pedestrian path.
