Man dead after assault along Portland’s Eastbank Esplanade

A man died early Friday morning after an attack on Portland’s Eastbank Esplanade, police said.

Portland Police Bureau officers responded to an assault call on the esplanade around 4:26 a.m. and found the victim, “believed to be an adult male,” dead. Officers detained a suspect and took the person to a hospital.

The killing is the second on the Portland waterfront in a week, following Fernando Luis Aguirre’s stabbing death March 15.
