Micron Technology appointed former Intel CEO Bob Swan to its board Monday, with Micron hailing his experience growing companies and generating “operational excellence.”

Swan joined Intel as its chief financial officer in 2016. He became interim CEO in 2018, when the company forced out Brian Krzanich after Intel’s board discovered Krzanich had conducted a romantic relationship with a subordinate in violation of company policy.

After a seven-month search for a new CEO, Intel’s board elected to remove Swan’s interim tag and he remained CEO until 2021. That was a difficult stretch for Intel, with a succession of manufacturing setbacks costing the company its technological leadership.

So Intel’s board replaced Swan three years ago with a former Intel vice president, Pat Gelsinger, who continues running the company. Swan then became a partner at Silicon Valley venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz. He joined Nike’s board in 2022.

Micron, based in Boise, makes memory chips used in a broad array of electronics. It is in the process of building new factories in New York and Idaho.
