Two people died Saturday morning in a traffic crash near Tigard that police described as a “very chaotic scene” after one of the cars flipped and caught fire.

Witnesses told police a Nissan Altima sedan collided with a GMC Terrain SUV around 6:20 a.m. at Southwest Roy Rogers Road and Perth Road, and that the Altima rolled over and burst into flames.

Rescuers were not able to save the Altima’s driver nor the passenger in the back seat of the sedan. However, a passenger in the front seat survived.

The driver of the SUV was taken to a hospital with what police described as potentially life-threatening injuries. No one else was in the SUV.

An officer with Tigard police used a drone with thermal imaging to check the crash scene for other potential victims but did not find any.
