Police say “extreme intoxication and speed” likely caused a woman to crash her car in North Portland Wednesday night, killing her 4-year-old son.

Angelina L. Minor, 27, was booked into Multnomah County jail and could face charges including manslaughter, reckless driving and driving under the influence of intoxicants, according to the Portland Police Bureau.

Minor, driving a 2011 Hyundai Elantra, failed to stop after a minor crash at North Lombard Street and Richmond Avenue, police said. The driver of the other car followed the Elantra after Minor allegedly sped away.

“Moments later, Minor’s Hyundai was driving eastbound on North Fessenden Street at North Oswego Avenue when Minor drove over the median divider into the oncoming lane,” police said in a statement. “... At North Mohawk Avenue, Minor crashed head-on into a silver 2022 Tesla Model S.”

Minor’s son, Kingston R. Coston, was “severely injured” in the crash and later died at an area hospital. Minor, an adult passenger in Minor’s car and the passenger’s 3-year-old daughter also were taken to a hospital. They have “non-life-threatening injuries,” police said.

The driver of the Tesla was injured but chose not to be taken to a hospital.

Minor was convicted of driving under the influence of intoxicants and reckless driving in 2022. She also pleaded no contest to driving under the influence of intoxicants in 2019.

The police bureau’s Traffic Investigations Unit continues to investigate Wednesday’s crash and asks anyone with information to send an email to crimetips@police.portlandoregon.gov.
